The MyFord Touch interface is an update of the earlier Sync system. It features a large touchscreen, Bluetooth pairing, voice controls, and it runs on the Microsoft Auto 4.0 platform. Sync was rolled out for the 2007 model year, and MyFord Touch represents the fourth generation of that system.
In addition to GPS navigation, MyFord Touch also handles entertainment, climate control, and hands-free phone usage. These systems can all be accessed from the central interface or expanded to fill the entire screen.
The MyFord Touch interface was criticized when it was initially launched due to touchy voice controls and confusing menus. However, the software is fully upgradeable through its USB interface. That means owners of 2011 and 2012 model year vehicles can contact Ford or their local dealers to obtain a free upgrade to the newest software.
